Updated: Feb 24, 2022

Are you looking to find eco-friendly makeup brands? It can be difficult due to many companies claiming their products are environmentally friendly. The global eco-friendly cosmetic industry is estimated to be worth $20.8 billion by 2025. During the last decade, more green makeup companies have been formed, resulting in an influx of brands. However, there has also been an increase in greenwashing, the process of a firm pretending its products are good for the environment when they are not. Here at Glass planet, we’re dedicated to finding the best makeup brands to fit you and your needs. Why not look good and reduce your environmental impact?

Axiology

Axiology is a luxury makeup brand that originally started producing lipsticks, but now has a variety of options. All Axiology products are vegan, cruelty-free, and palm oil-free. The company was founded by Ericka Rodriquez, who has been an animal and lipstick lover since her tweens. She was inspired to make her own lipstick brand after realizing that many lipsticks contained animal by-products or were tested on animals. In 2020 their “balmies” a product that can be worn on the lid or lips won a Beacon award for sustainability. The sustainability champion category was dedicated to honoring a brand that makes people's lives better through beauty and wellness and is leaving the world in a better place as well. The makeup is completely plastic-free, and the paper wrapped around them is recyclable.

Elate Cosmetics

Elate Cosmetics is a favorite brand among environmentally conscious individuals. The brand's packaging is 75% waste-free and uses ingredients such as bamboo, glass, aluminum, and seed paper. The ingredients are around 75% organic,100% vegan, and cruelty-free as certified by Leaping Bunny. What makes this brand unique is its approach to selling products. They focus on creating a capsule collection of makeup, encouraging customers to buy only what they need. Customers can create a capsule by answering three questions. After answering the questions, the website will offer product recommendations based on your needs. They consider your makeup style, skin tone, and amount of time you spend applying makeup.

LYS Beauty

LYS Beauty was created by makeup artist Tisha Thompson. LYS is the first Black-owned Sephora Clean Color Cosmetics brand. The company's mission is to diversify the clean beauty industry. Often it can be difficult for individuals with darker complexions to find face products that work for them as well as finding products that use natural ingredients. Universal shade offerings are available, making clean beauty accessible to everyone. Their shades range from porcelain to deep espresso. Every product they offer is priced below $30 and their products are exclusively available at Sephora. 30% of their packaging is recycled materials. Their full range of products are gluten-free, talc-free, fragrance-free, mineral oil-free, and SLS-free.

Pacifica

Pacifica is a brand known for its colorful yet natural packaging designs. This brand was launched in 1996 and offered perfume and candles. Pacifica is committed to being 100% vegan and cruelty-free. They offer a variety of products ranging from makeup to skincare. Pacifica is not afraid of using bright and bold colors, proving that eco-friendly makeup doesn’t have to be subdued. Their eyeshadows and blush are vivid and make a statement. Pacifica has partnered with Preserve to recycle used beauty containers into razors and toothbrushes. Recycling the empty makeup containers is easy and provides members with rewards.

RMS

RMS was founded in 2009 by makeup artist Rose-Marie Swift. She was the first to create a luminizer, a cream that gives the face a dewy glow, without using grease or glitter. The luminizer is formulated with organic coconut and castor seed oils to nourish your skin. Almost all the ingredients used in RMS Beauty Products are certified organic by the USDA. This brand also does not use GMO ingredients. Their “un” cover-up concealer is also popular due to the texture that effortlessly blends into your skin, providing a natural yet even finish.
