5 Zero Waste Skincare Brands

The right skincare care makes you look and feel great. While some skincare brands leave your face looking amazing, a lot of them have a negative impact on the environment. Here at Glass Planet, we want your skin to look amazing and save the planet at the same time. These five sustainable brands will get you started on a skincare journey that will make a positive impact on the planet.

Zero waste is described as, “the conservation of all resources by means of responsible production, consumption, reuse, and recovery of products, packaging, and materials without burning and with no discharges to land, water, or air that threaten the environment or human health” (Zero Waste International Alliance). All discarded materials are re-used instead of being thrown away.

Blendily

Blendily was founded by Ivy Chuang, and she sold her first product in 2014. After her daughter was born, she started studying botany. This new passion for botany grew into a business that she started at a garden pop-up shop. She believes in the healing properties of plants and that individuals should be connected to nature. This company is based in Portland, and they make all their products in-house. Their most popular product is The Golden Hour Facial Oil Serum which nourishes the skin and stimulates cell reproduction, resulting in a fresher yet natural appearance.

Dew Mighty

Dew Mighty describes themselves as a “slow beauty” company. Their founder, Tiffany, wanted to create a brand with the lowest carbon footprint possible, using pure ingredients and products that are effective for all skin types. A unique aspect of this company is that they offer serums in bar form instead of a bottle. Their serums can replace up to 8 different products by using natural ingredients that are backed by science. This serum leaves skin feeling healthy, nourished, dewy, smooths lines, evens, reduces redness, and combats irritation. The bar is completely plastic-free, zero waste, and vegan.

Facetheory

Facetheory is a vegan skincare brand that is located in the United Kingdom and is leaping bunny certified. The brand was created to provide skincare that is good for your skin and the environment. They also believe that skincare products should be affordable, clean, vegan, and cruelty-free. One aspect that makes this skincare line special is its ability to create different product lines for a variety of skin types. They have a quiz on their website that will help you figure out which products best fit your needs. Most of their products are available in amber glass jars with aluminum caps or 100% aluminum tubes, which are easy to recycle.

Meow Meow Tweet

The New York City based brand was founded in 2009 by musicians Jeff Kurosaki and Tara Pelletier. They started creating soaps and deodorants as a hobby and wanted to create whimsical and fun skincare products. The name of the company was named after their two cats and one bird. All of their products are vegan, non-toxic, and plastic-free. Every product is made in America using small batch sizes. Their packaging is biodegradable and uses at least 80% post-consumer wastepaper, never using plastic or metal liners. Their Pink Rose Clay bar uses mild ingredients and gentle floral oils to gently cleanse the skin without stripping the skin's natural protective barrier. Each month Meow Meow Tweet donates to an environmental charity such as the Sierra Club.

Josie Maran

The company was founded 14 years ago when its founder, Josie Maran, discovered the hydrating, fortifying, and nourishing properties of Argan Oil. Every product they offer contains 100% Pure Argan Oil. As a model/actress, she worked with many makeup artists over her career and was told that there would never be quality products that were clean. All of the oil used in their products comes from Southwestern Morocco, a UNESCO-protected region that prevents deforestation and over-harvesting. No synthetics or parabens are ever used in their products. The brand has partnered with TerraCycle, allowing their product jars to be recycled.
